London - A British man accused of hiring a hit man to kill his wife on their South African honeymoon has been hospitalised with severe chest pains.
Shrien Dewani's family says the 32-year-old's health has “seriously deteriorated.”
The family said Wednesday that tests suggest Dewani had a negative reaction to medication prescribed as part of his mental health treatment.
Dewani is accused of arranging the murder of his 28-year-old wife, Anni. She was found shot dead in an abandoned taxi in Cape Town's Gugulethu township in November 2010.
In March, a British court halted his extradition to South Africa, citing his mental state.
Until he was hospitalised this weekend, Dewani was being treated in a secure mental health hospital for depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. - Sapa-AP
