Gauteng -

A singer from Afrikaans group Romanz was arrested for speeding while on his way to a performance, the Gauteng traffic police's high speed unit said on Saturday.

“A singer who forms part of the well known band, Romanz, was nabbed for speeding on Saturday whilst on his way to perform with his group at a wedding in Worcester in the Cape,” said spokeswoman Busaphi Nxumalu.

“He was caught at 6.39am on the R21 near the Olifantsfontein offramp doing 189km/h with his Renault Megan, when a member off the Gauteng traffic police's high speed unit measured his speed with the moving violation recorder.

“He claimed that he was late for his flight at OR Tambo,” she said.

The musician was taken to the Olifantsfontein police station where he was formally charged with reckless and negligent driving. He was released on R1000 bail and would appear in the Tembisa Magistrate's Court early next week. - Sapa
