Johannesburg - Six drivers were arrested on Sunday for speeding on the N1 south near Maraisburg, according to Johannesburg metro police.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said they were all driving at excessive speeds on the road, which has a speed limit of 120km/h.

Four of the six were motorcyclists.

“The motorcyclists were all travelling between 182km/h and 187km/h and all their bikes did not have number plates on them,” said Minnaar.

The six were expected to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on Monday to face charges of excessive speeding.

The bikers would face additional charges of driving motorcycles without number plates. - Sapa
