Johannesburg - Six men have been arrested for robbing a shop in Botshabelo, Bloemfontein, Free State police said on Monday.
“Four suspects entered the premises. One of them took out a firearm and instructed everyone to hand over their mobile phones,” Constable Peter Kareli said of the robbery on Thursday.
The shop owner arrived during the robbery and was ordered, at gunpoint, to hand over his car keys and money.
The robbers, aged between 24 and 32, fled in the owner's black Ford Montana double-cab bakkie with five cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The vehicle was found early the next day at a house in Botshabelo. Two men were arrested at the house and four others were arrested later. The firearm used in the robbery was seized and the items stolen were recovered.
Police established that the firearm had been stolen earlier this year.
Kareli said the men had been charged with robbery with aggravating circumstances and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. They would appear in the Botshabelo Magistrate's Court on Monday.
