Six men have been arrested, drugs and illegal firearms have been seized and stolen cars have been recovered by the Pietermaritzburg public order police.
Police made the arrests during an operation in the Bergville and Upper Tugela areas over the weekend.
A 26-year-old man was arrest-ed in Emablesini for the unlawful possession of a 9mm Daewoo firearm with its serial number filed off and five live rounds of ammunition. He was also charged for being in possession of five, 50kg bags of dagga.
A 19-year-old man was arrested for dealing in dagga when he was found with 10.5kg of dagga in Sandlwane.
A further four 50kg bags of dagga were recovered in a Toyota Siyaya minibus. The vehicle was impounded by police.
A 36-year-old man, who was wanted in an Upper Tugela attempted murder case, and another suspect who was on the Pietermaritzburg wanted suspects list, were both arrested and are due to appear in court this week.
A Toyota Conquest that had been reported stolen in Dundee was recovered in the Cwaka area in Umsinga.
A 7.65mm pistol was found abandoned in the Ngome area where an 18-year-old was arrested in an unrelated case of illegal hunting.
A 9mm pistol, with its serial number filed off, was found abandoned at Mpophomeni.
A 51-year old suspect was arrested in the Ndwedwe area for the unlawful possession of a 9mm pistol and eight live rounds of ammunition.
A .303 rifle with a magazine and five .303 live rounds of ammunition as well as a 7.65mm pistol with a magazine and four live rounds of ammunition were seized from a 48-year-old man who produced expired firearm licences.
The firearms will be kept in police custody at the Ndwedwe SAPS until the owner produces valid licences.
