Six people accused of theft and possession of stolen goods appeared in the Thaba Nchu Magistrate's Court on Monday, Free State police said.

They were arrested on Friday after police were tipped off about a Coca Cola truck making an unscheduled delivery in Thaba Nchu zones five and two, Constable Consolation Mokoale said.

“The stock manager at the Coca Cola depot in Bloemfontein informed the police about the truck that was delivering drinks to Bangladeshi shop owners. He noticed a shortage in the stock.”

Police arrested the 44-year-old driver, three Bangladeshi shop owners and their workers who allegedly stored some of the drinks in their homes. The driver would remain in police custody, while the other five were released on a warning. They were expected in court on June 25 for bail application. Police recovered goods worth R100 000. - Sapa
