Giyani - Six people accused of killing a woman they accused of bewitching her sister-in-law appeared in the Giyani Magistrate's Court on Monday, Limpopo police said.

Reginald Makhuvele, 33, and Ntokozo Nkuna, 36, were released on bail of R1500 each and would appear in court again on May 27, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said.

Baileric Matsimbi, 20, Sylvester Nkuna, 28, Peaceful Nkuna, 31, and Vonani Nkuna, 26, would remain in custody.

The two women and four men were arrested over the past few days after the killing of Catherina Nkovani, 52, from Thomo village, Giyani.

Two of the accused were arrested in Polokwane and the others in and around Giyani.

Nkovani was attacked and assaulted on April 27, after her sister-in-law Phindile Ngovani's funeral. Police said she was sick for some time before she died in April.

After the funeral, locals, including Ngovani's husband, accused Nkovani of bewitching her. She was beaten and set alight and died in Khesani Hospital the next day.
