Richard Nhleke, 33, Smanga Madonsela, 30, Mduduzi Linda, 29, Jabulile Mthethwa, 56, Thandiwe Sikhosana, 44, and Phumzile Shange, 58, were convicted of murdering Thembinkosi Dlamini, 36, on June 11, 2008, said Captain Thulani Zwane.
“Dlamini was in his welfare office at Ngwelezane area, near Empangeni when he was approached by a group of armed men... at 3.15pm.
“He was shot and killed instantly and the suspects fled the scene on foot. The victim was killed because he was doing internal investigation of alleged fraud and corruption within the department.”
Six spent 9mm cartridges were found at the scene.
Two of the six also received an additional six years' imprisonment for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. The sentences were handed down on Thursday.
