Johannesburg - Four boys and two men accused of gang-raping a mentally impaired 17-year-old girl were expected to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

They were arrested after a cellphone video which they allegedly made of the crime appeared on the Internet on April 18.

Seven people who matched the description of the suspects shown in the video were arrested in Dobsonville, Soweto, on April 17.

Charges against one man were dropped due to a lack of evidence. He was expected to turn State witness. The four boys, aged between 13 and 17, as well as the men, aged 18 and 19, were out on bail.

They face charges of rape, sexual assault, engaging the sexual services of a minor for reward, using a minor to create child pornography, committing a sexual act in the presence of a minor, and committing a sexual act in the presence of an adult.

The girl went missing on March 21 and was found at a 37-year-old man's house in Braamfischerville, Soweto, during a search launched after police became aware of the video.

Charges against the man were provisionally withdrawn. No reasons were given for the decision. - Sapa
