Johannesburg - The family of a woman killed in a suspected “corrective rape” have called for harsh sentences for her attackers, Beeld newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Joyce Ngejane, the aunt of Duduzile Zozo, told the Afrikaans daily at her Thokoza home, east of Johannesburg, that she wanted the killers to go to prison for life.

Zozo, who was her family's only breadwinner, shared a small shack with her mother and three sisters.

Zozo, 26, was raped in the early hours of last Sunday morning, in Thokoza, near her mother's home.

She was later found dead after being brutalised in an apparent hate crime.

Her family, friends and neighbours said they believed she was targeted and subjected to “corrective rape” because she was a lesbian.

Delegations from the Democratic Alliance and the ANC Youth League visited the grieving family on Monday.

No arrests have been made, and her funeral will take place on Sunday. - Sapa
