FORMER Bafana Bafana and Jomo Cosmos player Lebogang Morula and four other accused were remanded in custody by the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Morula and his co-accused are expected in court on Tuesday for their formal bail application.

Morula, 44, and his Zimbabwean co-accused were arrested on Wednesday after they were allegedly found in possession of suspected stolen goods worth R4.2 million, which had been part of a consignment of goods hijacked from an Edcon truck in Joburg.

Investigations into the hijacking and a tip-off from the police’s crime intelligence unit led the police to a storeroom in Ga-Rankuwa, where some of the missing goods were found.

During the search at the storeroom, which belongs to Morula, four Zimbabweans, aged 19 to 38, were arrested.

Police also found boxes packed high with the stolen goods. Morula was out on bail for a similar incident.

The hijacked truck was also found later, abandoned in Pretoria West. Police also found Metro Police uniforms, a firearm, a stolen Kia Rio and an Iveco minibus.

Police spokesman Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi said more charges against Morula and his co-accused could still be laid. - Pretoria News Weekend
