An SA National Defence Force member was arrested on Tuesday morning for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in Delft, in Cape Town, Western Cape police said.

Captain Frederick van Wyk said the man, 37, was found with his legal firearm as well as a revolver, pistol and various ammunition.

He said the two guns were not reported as stolen.

Police pursued him by car after seeing him talking to a known gang member in Roosendal around 10am.

At one point, the man apparently threw a bag out of a car window, which was later found to contain the two guns.

The man would appear in the Bellville Magistrate's Court on Friday. – Sapa
