KwaZulu-Natal - A father and son were arrested for killing a relative believed to be mentally challenged, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.

“The suspects, aged 62 and 20, were arrested on Tuesday at Mfekayi Reserve in Mtubatuba,” Colonel Vincent Mdunge said.

A 62-year-old man assaulted and stabbed his biological son, who was believed to be mentally challenged, with a sharp instrument - together with his 20-year-old son on August 21, Mdunge said.

He said the 32-year-old man was killed after slaughtering his father's goat without consent.

“After the father discovered that his son killed the goat, he became angry and forced him to consume the whole goat, which he was unable to do,” Mdunge said.

He was then assaulted with a stick and stabbed with a sharp instrument, his hands were tied with a piece of wire and his body was later thrown in the nearby river.

When the 20-year-old man was questioned by police about his brother's murder, he confessed to the crime.

The 20-year-old man showed the police where his brother's body was.

The man's body was recovered on Tuesday in the Nyalazi River, concealed between the reeds.

Both men faced a murder charge and would appear in the Mtubatuba Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
