A motorist was arrested when he was caught going 228km/h on the N4 toll route, in Mpumalanga, on Friday, the provincial community safety department said.
“He was charged with reckless and negligent driving, and detained at Ngodwana police station,” said spokesman Joseph Mabuza.
The man, who was driving a BMW sedan, was expected to appear in the Ngodwana Periodical Court on Tuesday.
MEC Vusi Shongwe said the arrest would send the message that reckless driving would not be tolerated in the province over the holiday season.
“Traffic officers will work around the clock to ensure that roads become safer, and that holidaymakers arrive safely at their various destinations,” he said. - Sapa
