An award-winning SuperSport presenter has made a brief appearance in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court for allegedly exposing his genitals and masturbating before a 15-year-old boy.

He made his first court appearance on Wednesday, hours before he was due to host a show. SuperSport removed him, by “mutual agreement”, pending an investigation into the allegations.

The presenter was charged with compelling children to witness self-masturbation and exposing his genitals to a minor.

The charges against the man, who cannot be named until he has pleaded, follows an incident at a Virgin Active gym in Randburg on July 13. The Star understands that charges were laid at the Randburg police station on the same day.

The complainant, a local high school pupil, apparently entered a sauna at the gym, where he found the accused and another man conversing. The boy told the police that the latter left the room.

It is alleged that the 46-year-old man then opened his legs and exposed his genitals to the minor. The accused, according to information in possession of the investigators, later followed the complainant to the shower.

The presenter allegedly ran his penis against the shower glass in a bid to grab the boy’s attention. He allegedly also knocked on the shower door, before masturbating in his full view.

Evidence before the police shows that the accused did not have any physical contact with the minor.

The distraught complainant told his mother, who contacted the gym management. They were then advised to lay criminal charges.

Randburg Virgin Active did not confirm or deny the incident.

The police took two months to conclude their investigations. The Star understands that the decision to charge the accused was based on corroborative testimonies obtained by police during investigations.

The case was postponed until October 18.

SuperSport issued a statement on Wednesday evening, stating that the presenter would not be on air pending the conclusion of the criminal case.
