Bloemfontein - A Bangladeshi man was caught with stolen cellphones and electronic equipment moments before boarding a plane at Bloemfontein airport, Free State police said on Tuesday.

“Three cellphones and two tablet phones were identified and confirmed as stolen during an immediate preliminary investigation,” said Captain Chaka Marope in reaction to the man's arrest on Sunday.

He said police followed up information about a man about to board a flight from Bram Fischer Airport to Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport en route to his home country.

“The suspect was grabbed at the passenger waiting area,” said Marope.

Police said a search of the man and his carry bags revealed cellphones and photography equipment of which he failed to provide proof of ownership.

These items included eight cellphones, three tablets phones, four digital cameras, four camera flash lights, three video monitors, and five projectors.

Police said the man, 31, would appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on charges of possession of stolen goods on Wednesday.
