Welkom - Equipment worth about R50 000 stolen from Beatrix mine shaft four have been recovered in Welkom, Free State police said on Wednesday.

Members of the Welkom dog unit were on their way to work on Tuesday morning when they saw a loaded bakkie and stopped it, Captain Stephen Thakeng said.

Officers found pumps, machinery, wheelbarrows, railway tracks and other items from the mine in the bakkie and arrested the five people travelling in it.

After an investigation, the police raided a nearby farm, where more items stolen from the mine were found. Another person was arrested at the farm. The six would appear in the Welkom Magistrate's Court later on Wednesday.
