Johannesburg - Six people were arrested for possession of stolen motor vehicles in Midrand on Wednesday, Gauteng police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale said six suspects were arrested after they were cornered by the police with the assistance of a tracker team, after a vehicle was stolen in Mpumalanga.

“Members of the special projects tracker operational services team were alerted by the victim about his Isuzu that was stolen at about 2pm.

“The vehicle was traced with the chopper and tactical response team in Midrand.”

Mogale said that when the group saw the helicopter circling, they fled into the house, where five were arrested.

“When the police were securing the perimeter they found the sixth suspect hiding under one of the vehicles.”

The Isuzu was tested through the vehicle identification number, and was positive. Further investigation revealed that two other vehicles, a red Opel Corsa with a case number in Thabazimbi, Limpopo, and a white Mitsubishi truck that was stolen in Ivory Park.

“Several other vehicles were found on the scene and are being tested to ascertain their origins.”

She said the police also found several number plates, licence documents, keys belonging to a Mercedes-Benz, vehicle documents and vehicle tags. - Sapa
