Bloemfontein - A Free State protester who allegedly threw a stone into the face of a woman driver near Clocolan appeared in the town's magistrate’s court on Wednesday.

Free State police spokesman Captain Phumelelo Dhlamini said Thabiso Ntlororo was released on R500 bail and the case was postponed to September 26.

Ntlororo, 24, from Hlohlolwane, Clocolan, was arrested for the attempted murder of Isabel Hugo, 67, and for the assault of her daughter Elsabe, 27, on August 29.

Witnesses identified Ntlororo after an illegal march and protest in Clocolan on Monday, August 27.

Police said a group of people became violent and threw stones at passing vehicles on the R708 road between Clocolan and Marquard.

Hugo and her daughter were driving on the R708 and stopped when they saw a group of people in the road. While they waited they were attacked and severely injured. Police officers rescued them.

The two women were taken to the Pelonomi Regional Hospital in Bloemfontein. - Sapa
