Cape Town - An Elsies River man died when he was hit by a stray bullet during a shootout near his home.
Richard Scheepers, 42, had been in his flat with his family when they heard gunshots outside yesterday afternoon, police liaison officer Captain FC van Wyk said on Monday. A bullet smashed through the front door of the Scheepers family’s flat at 42 Orange Court, in 14th Avenue, and struck Scheeper. “When police arrived at the scene, they found a man lying in the doorway of his flat with a bullet wound in his neck,” Van Wyk said. “It is believed that the bullet was not intended to hit the victim.”
Scheepers was declared dead at the scene. A murder docket has been opened.
