Detectives investigating the murder of polo star Sibusiso Duma were confident of an early breakthrough in the case, a police spokesman said on Thursday night.

Duma, 25, who was the first development polo player in the country to reach international level and would have been working in England had his visa arrived in time, was stabbed to death in Lidgetton, Howick, on Tuesday afternoon.

It is believed Duma was stabbed several times in the street by the jealous boyfriend of a woman he had dated two years ago.

The woman was attacked earlier in the day and is recovering in hospital.

As Duma’s devastated family and the shocked polo playing community mourn the loss of the sportsman, police are on the hunt for the alleged killer.

The suspect was still at large on Thursday night but police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker, said detectives were confident a breakthrough in the case would be made soon. - Daily News
