Durban - A Pietermaritzburg father will appear in court on Thursday, charged with the rape of his 13-year-old daughter.
The Scottsville man was arrested on Wednesday at a local hospital after police traced him via the tracking device on his luxury vehicle.
It is believed the man tried to commit suicide after his wife allegedly caught him raping his daughter on Monday afternoon.
The man allegedly tried to slit his wrists and throat, but failed, and then drove himself to the hospital.
According to police sources, the 39-year-old was at home alone with his daughter while his wife had gone shopping.
However, she returned earlier than expected and found her husband with their teenage daughter in the bathroom.
He left the house and his wife rushed the child to the hospital. She was reportedly treated and discharged.
The police source said it was believed that the man had been raping his daughter for over a year.
In a separate incident, Pietermaritzburg police are searching for a Clarendon father of two who is alleged to have molested his 7-year-old son.
According to the police source, the wife had returned home early from a meeting last week and allegedly caught the man performing oral sex on their son in the master bedroom.
Their 12-year-old daughter was lying on the bed, but it is unclear at this stage whether she, too, had been molested.
The man fled after his wife screamed at him and has been on the run ever since.
