Palm Ridge, Gauteng - The trial of the alleged “Sunday rapist” was postponed on Wednesday because the judge was not present, the National Prosecuting Authority said.

The trial would continue on Thursday, said spokesman Nedupi Simasiku.

The reason for Judge Sita Kolbe's absence was not known, he said.

Johannes Jacobus Steyn has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder, 11 of rape, 10 of sexual assault, 10 of kidnapping, one of attempted sexual assault, and one of attempted kidnapping.

The trial was provisionally postponed to Wednesday, for Anton Lerm, representing Steyn, to call his father and brother to testify. - Sapa
