Johannesburg - A 16-year-old alleged victim of the so-called “Sunday rapist” recounted on Monday how she was kidnapped, blindfolded, and sexually assaulted.

“A bakkie stopped next to me and a man got out and pointed a gun at me,” the girl told the High Court sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court in Alberton.

The girl, who was 14-years-old at the time, was testifying in the trial of Johannes Jacobus Steyn, who is accused of murdering schoolgirls Louise de Waal and Lazanne Farmer.

She gave evidence in camera as she is a minor. Her mother sat with her for support in a room outside the court. Her father sat in the courtroom.

The girl testified that her kidnapper, who wore a wig and large sunglasses, blindfolded her and drove her to an unknown location.

He forced her to smoke and tried to kiss her, but she pulled away.

“He told me to do what he says and stop being stubborn.”

She said she started crying. He undressed her and saw she was menstruating.

“He told me it was my lucky day.” He then took out a “machine” and moved it around her breasts. She explained how he used this “machine” to sexually assault her.

He drove her to another location and told her to her to get out of the car before sexually assaulting her again.

The man told her, using her name, that if she went to the police he would find her and ship her to Europe to be a prostitute. He said this was his job.

He left her there and told her not to look back at him or he would shoot her. “I waited five minutes and when I looked around he was gone.”

She ran to a nearby business for help.

She was the first of three alleged victims to testify on Monday.

Steyn is also charged with 11 counts of rape, 10 of sexual assault, 10 of kidnapping, one of attempted sexual assault, one of attempted kidnapping, and two of assault.

He has pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.

When asked why he always brought a Bible into court with him, Steyn said: “It gives me courage”. He said his brother gave him the Bible in 2007.

Steyn said Psalm 43, especially, gave him courage. He kept a bookmark with pictures of his wife and child on that page.

Relatives of Farmer were in court on Monday, and members of the family cried during the 16-year-old's testimony.

On Friday, an 11-year-old girl told the court, also in camera, that she was walking home from a shop to her house on October 31, 2010, when she was attacked.

Her kidnapper, disguised in sunglasses, a cap and a wig, drove her to a veld where he cut off her shirt with a pocket knife and molested her.

The girl testified in detail about the sexual assault.

The 11 girls Steyn allegedly attacked between 2008 and 2011 were aged between 11 and 18. - Sapa
