Rustenburg – One suspect was arrested after four armed men made off with an undisclosed sum of money after robbing a game lodge near Wolmaransstad, North West police said on Friday.

Lieutenant Colonel Pelonomi Makau said the four entered the game lodge on Thursday pretending to be looking for one of the employees.

They are alleged to have threatened lodge employees with firearms, forcing them to lie down in a storeroom, tying them up with cable ties and robbing them of their cellphones.

One of the employees was said to have been instructed to open a safe, from where an undisclosed amount of cash was taken.

The suspects then fled the scene in a vehicle. Makau said the police were alerted and a speedy response resulted in an arrest.

“With assistance of the air wing the suspects' vehicle was spotted at Extension 7 in Jouberton [near Klerksdorp],” the officer said.

“The police searched the area and one suspect was successfully traced and arrested.”

The arrested man, aged 31, was expected to appear in the Wolmaransstad Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on a charge of business robbery. Three suspects remain at large and an investigation is continuing, the police said.
