Johannesburg - A man was arrested in Bassonia, Johannesburg, early Wednesday morning for allegedly shooting a person dead last year, Johannesburg metro police said.

The man, in his early 40s, was arrested at a townhouse complex just after midnight following a tip-off, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.

He was involved in a shooting at a shebeen in Springs on December 12, in which one person was killed and three were injured.

Minnaar said the man was allegedly found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition when he was arrested. He would appear in court soon.
