Tzaneen - A breakthrough has been made in the murder and mutilation of a 15-year-old girl from Relela outside Tzaneen, Limpopo police said on Wednesday.

A man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the brutal murder that led to a string of violent protests in the area.

“The police in Limpopo on Wednesday arrested a man suspected of brutally killing 15-year-old Kgomotso Ragolane of Relela outside Tzaneen,” spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said in a statement.

“Ragolane's body, whose hands were chopped-off, was found by a passer-by at Mandlakazi village on January 24.”

The 39-year-old man is said to be a resident of the village and was linked through DNA to the crime.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect is also linked with a rape of a 13-year-old girl in Bolobedu. He will appear before the Ritavi Magistrate's Court on Thursday,” he said.
