Johannesburg - A man wanted for a double murder in Tzaneen, Limpopo was arrested in Germiston, Gauteng, on Friday, said police.

He had been on the run since Tuesday, when he allegedly shot dead a mother and her daughter in Sasekani, Ritavi, Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe said.

He allegedly stormed into 63-year-old Mary Mangena's home and, when she asked what was happening, shot at her and her 40-year-old daughter, Hermina Mangena.

“When the police arrived at the crime scene, both (women) were found lying in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds throughout their bodies,” Ngoepe said.

Mary Mangena died at the scene. Her daughter died in hospital on Wednesday.

Ngoepe said police had since learned that the man had been in a relationship with Mangena's younger daughter. She was not home at the time of the shooting. The couple had lived together at his home, but the woman recently moved out after a fight.

The 35-year-old man was expected to face two murder charges in the Ritavi Magistrate's Court on Monday.
