Johannesburg - After more than a month of searching, police have arrested a suspect in the murder of forensic auditor Lawrence Moepi.

Prior to his death, Moepi was handling numerous sensitive investigations for his auditing firm, including an investigation into the purchase of Cosatu’s headquarters.

He was shot dead in the parking lot of his workplace, SizweNtsalubaGobodo. Nothing was taken from the scene, leading to speculation that the murder could have been a hit.

But Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said there was no direct relationship between the suspect and Moepi.

He said the 40-year-old man was arrested in Mofolo, Soweto, on Saturday. Police were following several leads in a bid to arrest a second suspect, he added.

The suspect was due to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court today.
