Cape Town - Through popular picture portal, thunda.com, the family of a man that was assaulted at a Cape Town nightclub managed to identify his alleged attacker.

A 24-year-old Parow man was in the popular city nightclub Mercury Lounge on July 29 when he was assaulted by a man who is believed to be a mixed martial arts fighter. It is unclear what had provoked the attack

The Parow man asked not to be identified in the media as he feared “future problems” with his attacker.

His sister said they pulled pictures from the website and had identified her brother’s attacker. She said she got his name from someone she knows in the martial arts community.

The incident left her brother with a broken cheekbone. He is due for surgery on Thursday.

His sister said his eye was still bloodshot and that the right side of his face was half collapsed.

“He will get a permanent plate inserted into his cheek to fix the damage,” she said.

The family have laid a charge at the Cape Town police station and police spokesman Colonel Thembinkosi Kinana said the matter was under investigation and no one had been arrested.

“The victim registered a case of assault at Cape Town Central police station on August 1,” Kinana said

Mercury Live & Lounge owner Kevin Winder said the alleged attacker and some of his friends had been banned from the club before for causing trouble.

Anyone with information can contact investigating officer, Detective Constable Sicake on 073 907 3740 or 021 467 8001, during office hours.
