Polokwane - A man arrested for the murder of a woman and her daughter appeared in the Ritavi Magistrate's Court on Monday, Limpopo police said.

The case against Frederick Molewa was postponed to next Monday, when he was expected to apply for bail, Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe said.

The 35-year-old was arrested in Germiston, Gauteng, on Friday after being on the run for three days following the fatal shooting of Mary Mangena, 63, and her daughter, Hermina, 40.

Molewa allegedly entered the Mangena's home in Sasekani village, outside Tzaneen, last Tuesday and opened fire on the two women.

“When the police arrived at the crime scene, both (women) were found lying in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds,” Ngoepe said at the time.

Mary Mangena died at the scene. Her daughter died in hospital on Wednesday.

Ngoepe said police had since learned that the man had been in a relationship with Mangena's younger daughter. She was not home at the time of the shooting. The couple had lived together at his home, but the woman recently moved out after a fight.
