Johannesburg - A man appeared in the Newlands Magistrate's Court in Sophiatown on Thursday after he was allegedly involved in a shooting that left a three-year-old boy critically wounded in Westbury.
Keenan Mokwena, 28, was also shot and wounded in the shooting on Saturday evening in the suburb west of Johannesburg.
Dressed in a black jacket and blue jeans, Mokwena appeared in the dock just after 1pm on Thursday.
He looked directly at magistrate Ivy Serei and his own lawyer Omphile Kedijang during court proceedings, and stared at the public sitting in the benches when he left the dock.
The matter was postponed to August 12.
Mokwena and three-year-old Luke Tibbetts were travelling in the area in different vehicles when they were hit by stray bullets.
They were taken to nearby hospitals.
He was shot in his right arm and was treated and discharged.
Lindray Khakhu, 24, was arrested at the weekend for allegedly shooting and wounding Tibbetts. On Tuesday, he appeared in the same court.
The court heard that these were not the only charges Khakhu faced.
He faced three other charges of attempted murder in a separate incident.
The cases were pending before the High Court, prosecutor Vincent Mochabela told the court.
He was also expected to appear in court on August 12, but according to Warrant Officer Gordon Billing, Mokwena and Khakhu would appear separately.
Khakhu was arrested after people who witnessed the shooting identified him and reported the matter to the police.
