Johannesburg - A man arrested in connection with the murder of two elderly sisters in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg, was released on Monday, said police.
The 24-year-old was supposed to have appeared in the Protea Magistrate's Court but the case was not put on the roll, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.
“The court did not place 1/8his case 3/8 on the roll as investigations are still to be done and we are awaiting DNA results from his blood and blood samples taken at the scene,” said Makhubela.
He said the man was still a suspect.
“If he is linked through the DNA, then the case will be placed back on the roll. He is free until such time.”
On Wednesday a relative found the the bodies of sisters Julie and Hawa Gora, both in their 70s, in a house in Extension 11.
“One of the old ladies, who was full of blood, was found in the sitting room. The other was found dead in a bedroom,” he said.
The suspect was arrested in the early hours of Friday morning. The motive for the killings was not known.
