Northern Cape - A Northern Cape man has been arrested and an eleven year cold case potentially solved, said police on Tuesday.

Twenty-nine-year-old Ulrich Cloete had been on the run from police on an attempted murder charge since 2004.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Rosedale South African Police Service (SAPS) detective unit arrested Cloete.

SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant SF Kock said the unit had “followed up on information regarding the wanted suspect”.

The suspect was arrested at approximately 11:00 in a house in Upington, Kock said.

Cloete had first appeared in the Upington Magistrate’s Court on a charge of attempted murder in 2004.

“It is alleged that on October 9, 2004 he stabbed an adult male. He was released on bail. He failed to attend his next court appearance and a warrant of arrest was issued by the magistrate,” said Kock.

Cloete would be appearing in the Upington Magistrate’s Court soon.
