Johannesburg - The Hawks arrested four suspected hijackers in Tembisa, east of Johannesburg, on Monday, Gauteng police said.

“Members of the Gauteng Hawks are raiding vehicle hijackers in Tembisa and have arrested four suspects believed to have been responsible for hijacking several vehicles in Gauteng,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini in a statement.

The men were identified during an operation that started few months ago where several vehicles were recovered and handed back to the owners.

“In the process of the operation, warrants for their arrests were issued and they were arrested during a dawn raid that began at 3am today (Monday).”

Those arrested would appear in the Tembisa Magistrate's Court soon.

“One of the suspects targeted was found to have been already arrested on another hijacking case in Sandringham and is appearing at the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court today (Monday),” said Dlamini. - Sapa
