KwaZulu-Natal - A man was beaten to death by community members after he was accused of house breaking in KwaMashu, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Tuesday.
Bonga Warren Simelane, 22, was attacked in C section, Amazimtoti Road on Monday.
“He was allegedly beaten up by a mob, and his body was found by police lying in running water by the stream,” Major Thulani Zwane said said in a statement.
A case of murder was opened at the KwaMashu police station, and no arrests had been made, Zwane said.
“We want to once again discourage people from taking the law into their own hands and caution that those found to be breaking the law will be prosecuted. We urge members of the community to work together with the police by providing information with regards to the suspects involved in this murder so that they can be arrested.
“Whilst we welcome greater community involvement in the fight against crime, we appeal to our citizens to hand over those that have been found committing crimes to police so that our courts can pass an appropriate sentence that fits the crime.” said KwaZulu Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni
