Johannesburg - A suspected house robber was shot dead, and two of his alleged accomplices were wounded, in a shootout with police in Alexandra early on Thursday morning, Gauteng police said.
Around 3am police responded to an attempted house robbery, Warrant Officer Moses Mathakela said.
“When they arrived, the suspects shot at the police and the police shot back.”
One of the suspected robbers died on the scene. Two others were wounded and remain under police guard in hospital.
Mathakela said two unlicensed firearms and eight rounds of ammunition were seized.
