Durban - A suspected robber was shot dead by an eThekwini metro police officer in Isipingo on Tuesday.
SAPS spokesman, Lieutenant-colonel Shooz Magudulela, said police intervened when a 27-year-old man was attacked by three men at about 11.30am.
The men had robbed the victim of his possessions and were stabbing him in Old Main Road when police stepped in.
“The suspect attempted to also stab the police officer who drew a firearm and fatally shot the suspect. The other two suspects fled,” said Magudulela.
Police are investigating a case of attempted murder and an inquest was also opened in respect of the dead suspect at Isipingo police station.
