Cape Town - Four people accused of robbing a Spur restaurant in Table View of about R80 000 have appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court.
Mziyanda Nethe, 25, Linda Kali,25, Sibongile Mbinda, 37, and Asanda Magwa, 19, are alleged to have robbed Spur staff at gunpoint at about 9am on November 28 last year.
It is the State’s case that the group went to the Spur to inquire about holding a birthday party on the premises. When staff asked how old the child was, one of the accused allegedly answered “90”. Spur staff informed them that they only hosted children’s parties and that they could not accommodate them.
Seconds later, guns were drawn and the staff were forced into the kitchen area. The group then cleaned out the safe and tills of about R80 000.
Police were notified and just 15 minutes later the four suspects were apprehended. They appeared in court for the first time three days later and the case was postponed to establish their criminal profiles.
Magwa was later released on bail of R1 000 on condition that she steers clear of the restaurant and refrains from contacting its staff.
The other accused formally applied for bail before magistrate Zwelindumile Sogwagwa, but their case had to be postponed yesterday because Sogwagwa had been transferred to another court.
The soonest available date Sogwagwa could set aside for the bail applications was March 19.
