Johannesburg - A traditional court near Malamulele in Limpopo may take action against a teacher who failed to appear before it for allegedly breaking up a marriage, the Sowetan reported on Wednesday.

“We will write to the department of education as well as the police, and he cannot defy us like that,” the court's officer Hosi Xikundu was quoted as saying..

Freddy Maluleke, who is also the secretary of the SA National Civic Organisation was cited in a marriage-wrecking complaint brought by Derrick Mashaba.

Mashaba accused his wife Nelly of being involved in an affair with several men, including Maluleke.

The traditional court summoned Maluleke on two occasions to appear, but he did not. On Monday, he failed to appear again.

Despite this, the proceedings continued as throngs of residents showed up to hear the details.

The court's officials phoned the school where he works, but were told he was sick and not at work.

Nelly admitted to having an affair with Maluleke and was forced to apologise. She was also fined R250 for undermining the court's authority.

Maluleke reportedly told the newspaper he did not know he was supposed to appear, and declined to talk about the alleged affair. - Sapa
