The affordable education loan option
Cape Town - A Cape Town teacher appeared in the Blue Downs Magistrate's Court on Thursday in connection with the rape of a 12-year-old pupil, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said.
NPA Western Cape spokesman Eric Ntabazalila said the man, 39, was denied bail and would appear in court again on December 3 for a trial date.
He has been charged with six counts of abduction and 12 counts of rape.
“We welcome the decision of the court to deny the accused bail as this would have sent a wrong message to the public,” he said.
“The teacher, who is charged with raping the learner on several occasions, was also her teacher and her father's friend.”
