Cape Town - A Cape Town teacher accused of raping a 12-year-old pupil appeared in the Blue Downs Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, said Western Cape police.
The matter was postponed to October 24. He remained in custody, said Captain Frederick van Wyk.
The 39-year-old primary school teacher was arrested earlier this week after the girl's father approached the police.
“According to preliminary investigation, the victim was picked up by the suspect on six different occasions, over a period of several months, while the victim was on her way home from school,” he said.
“The suspect allegedly took her to his house where he raped her.... At this stage it is not clear why the victim did not come forward earlier.”
Van Wyk said police were investigating the possibility that other pupils were sexually assaulted.
