Durban - Serial rapist Aubrey Ndadane wept as the charges of rape and robbery with aggravating circumstances were read to him, wept as he pleaded guilty and wept again as his written guilty plea was read out to the Durban Regional Court.

The 41-year-old, on Friday, said he had raped five women at knife point during January and May this year, instructed them to wash themselves afterwards using a water bottle he carried and then robbed them.

According to his written plea, read out to the court by his attorney, Ridewaan Sayed, who represented him pro bono, Ndadane had used the women’s search for employment to strike up a conversation with them.

The first woman, he said, he had raped in the bushes near Salicot Crescent in Wentworth. He had threatened to stab her and took her cellphone before raping her.

He said he did not use a condom and had washed himself afterwards using water he had in a bottle, and instructed his victim to do the same.

He had taken the second woman’s cellphone number after meeting her in Clairwood and learning she was looking for a job.

He called her 15 minutes later asking her to meet him at a particular road in Clairwood.

He asked her to walk with him to her new employer’s house.

“When we neared some bushes, I produced a knife and pulled her into the bushes,” his plea read.

Here, too, he stole her cellphone.

Using the same modus operandi he raped three more women in Clairwood, Wentworth and Montclair.

The women were aged between 22 and 33.

Ndadane was arrested earlier this month by the Brighton Beach Police Task Team.

It is believed he was being investigated for other rape cases on the South Coast.

Magistrate Wendy Robinson adjourned the matter for sentencing until next month.
