Johannesburg - A Soweto youth will appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court for allegedly killing an 18-year-old teenager in Pimville, police said on Wednesday.

The youth, also 18, will appear on Thursday for the crime that was committed on Saturday night. He was arrested on Monday and charged with murder, Constable Zanele Bens said.

He allegedly stabbed Thato Motale to death. Motale suffered two stab wounds.

On Wednesday, the Sowetan reported that Motale was fighting his 16-year-old cousin's battles with a group of izikhothane (proponents of a township sub-culture known for their love of expensive brands).

The boy told the newspaper he was visiting a friend in the area where he saw izikhothane dancing and swearing.

“I was talking to my friend, minding my own business, when one izikhothane approached me and started swearing at me,” the boy told the newspaper.

Later on that day, he told his cousin, Thato, when the fight broke up between them and the group of four izikhothanes.

They chased the group when Thato tripped and fell. He was then stabbed twice. He died on his way to hospital. - Sapa
