Cape Town - A 19-year-old man appeared in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning on charges of murder and attempted murder.

Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said the man was arrested in connection with the brutal killing of 18-year-old Lekita Moore on Sunday morning.

Her mutilated body was discovered in a field along Tuna Road in Valhalla Park.

At 5.30am on Sunday, residents rushed out to the horrific scene on a field where Moore’s body was found. She had been stabbed several times in the throat and stomach. One of her nipples and a part of her crotch area had been cut away.

According to witnesses on the scene it had looked like the young woman’s legs were broken as a result of rape.

On Wednesday Van Wyk did not want to elaborate on the condition of a friend she was reportedly with who was apparently also stabbed and is in a critical condition in hospital.
