Cape Town - Nyanga residents are mystified by an incident, believed to have been a shooting following a foiled robbery involving a bread truck, in which seven teenagers were wounded and one killed.

Police are investigating a case of murder and seven cases of attempted murder after the teenagers were shot on Sunday at about 3am, in Zwelitsha, Nyanga.

The victims were between the ages of 15 and 17. Police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk said: “They sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to hospital but one died due to his injuries. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.”

Community Policing Forum (CPF) Chairman Martin Makasi said residents who witnessed the incident spoke of an attempted robbery of a bread truck in which the security guards - tasked with securing the bread truck - opened fire on the teenagers.

“We are calling on residents to take a stand and bring forward information to help us,” said Makasi.
