Durban - An 18-year-old schoolboy was stabbed outside a school in Shakaskraal north of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

Captain Thulani Zwane confirmed the incident saying that although the suspect was known, he had yet to be arrested.

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha the teenager had been stabbed outside the school and was found on the road.

He had sustained several stab wounds and was taken to hospital.

Zwane said a case of assault with the intent to commit grievous bodily harm had been opened at the Umhlali police station.

Shakaskraal is about 50km north of Durban.
