Cape Town - Three teenage girls have been rescued from a brothel by the City of Cape Town’s Vice Unit and the Hawks.
The City reported today that the two units had joined forces in an undercover operation at the brothel in Parklands on Wednesday.
“During the sting, three 19-year-old women, who were forced into prostitution, were rescued from the premises,” the City said in a statement.
“The women had been ‘recruited’ from Kenridge, Milnerton and Table View.”
The Vice Squad had acted on information from residents in the area, prompting the rescue mission.
The case is still under investigation, but the three young women have been placed in safe houses, the City said.
During the operation, the unit issued fines and written warnings to 13 women for solicitation and served a warrant of arrest on a prostitute for failing to appear in court, the City said.
Less than a month ago, the Vice Unit rescued another 19-year-old, originally from the Free State, from the streets of Brooklyn.
She had told officers she had been lured to Cape Town by a boyfriend, but that upon her arrival here she was raped, “forced to take illegal narcotics, and made to conduct sexual activities against her will”.
