TEENAGER SHOT DEAD IN CAPE TOWN

A teenager was shot dead and a man was wounded on Tuesday afternoon in Athlone, Western Cape police said.

The 16-year-old boy was coming home from school when he was caught in a crossfire between people who were fighting, said Colonel Tembinkosi Kinana.

A 31-year-old man was also injured and sent to a nearby hospital for treatment.

ER24 spokeswoman Luyanda Majija said the teenager was shot in the neck and the man was shot on his arm.

"When responding paramedics arrived on the scene, the boy's neighbours were attempting to control his profuse bleeding. The teenager was declared dead on the scene," Majija said.

Police were investigating a murder and attempted murder case.

No arrests had been made.
