Johannesburg -

Three teenagers were arrested on Thursday evening in connection with a sexual offence against a 10-year-old child in a Lenasia church, Gauteng police said.

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said the incident happened on Wednesday during a prayer service. Three teenagers and a man in his 20s allegedly took the boy into an upstairs room away from the congregation.

Unbeknown to the child's attackers, the incident was captured on the church's CCTV system.

When the church service ended, an elder in the church went to check the CCTV footage and discovered the evidence.

The matter was reported to the police, who apprehended three boys - aged 13, 14 and 15 - on Thursday at 7pm.

The arrest of the man in his 20s was expected soon, Makhubela said.

The teenagers would be taken to a place of safety and would appear in a special inquiry court for children soon. - Sapa
